We woke up in Mandalay on the first day of the year of the Tiger and headed out to the “International” airport early. The new year coincided with Valentine’s Day this year, which we were excricuatingly aware of due to the absolutely insane popularity of the “holiday” in Myanmar. It was a complete 180° to find ourselves in Bagan by late morning – but a very welcome change.

Home to more than 2,500 temples, you can well imagine the loads of photos I had to look at on just the first day. However, these two persistent and ever-charming young postcard salesmen at Htilominlo Temple got the nod for reasons that are probably clear.

Kung Hei Fat Choi
Valentine’s Day.
