October 27. This is a billboard for Goods of Desire, generally referred to as G.O.D. in Hong Kong as the homonymic pronunciation sounds like the Cantonese expression meaning “to live better…”

“Delay No More” is their signature slogan and it is generally paired with a secondary command heavy on the double entendre, as seen above. It is their top seller.

The reason?

Because it has that Carpe Diem sentiment?

No.

Because when pronounced with a Cantonese accent, delay no more becomes delay lo mo, which is a small step away from dei lei lo mo… which is a particularly offensive way to tell someone to f*ck off.

There. Look, a language lesson amid urban geographic photography. Bitchin’ cross curricular-ness.
